Be Happy Now – Stop Doing These 5 things

Recent Research shows that the World Health Organization estimates that over 121 million people worldwide have some form of depression; whether it lasts a couple of minutes, or through many years of your life, chances are we’ve all experienced some form of depression, and it’s never any fun.

As a self-help author and travel writer, I’ve seen similarities in people all around the world. No matter where we come from, no matter what socio-economic standard or cultural background, we all have one thing in common. We all want to be happy.

While doing research for my next book, I discovered a formula to help people strengthen their inner faith, to enable them to have confidence in every aspect of their life, and ultimately to tap into authentic happiness.

The thing is that though everyone wants to be happy, our negative beliefs and patterns often stand in the way. To get to happiness, we must first stop believing in and acting on the negative. Here are some ideas to help you be happy now!

1. Stop worrying about the future and obsessing about the past.

Don’t waste time worrying about things you can’t control. Life is a series of ups and downs, and learning to ride the wave can help you feel more comfortable in the now. Recognize that worry is kind of like praying for what you don’t want! Yuck! Who wants that?

2. Stop thinking and start feeling.

Listening to your fear and believing that it’s real can stop you from reaching your full potential. Too often we listen to our rational mind and to what other people think, failing to ask ourselves how we feel about our current situation. Dropping the focus from your head to your heart, and then acting on your true feelings will help you tap into an unlimited source of happiness.

3. Stop numbing yourself.

The endless cycle of numbing ourselves to escape from our fears and doubts has become a regular part of the human condition. The moment a feeling creeps in, we are quick to cover it up with sugar, shopping, drugs, alcohol, over-working, over-spending, over-analyzing, over-anything to keep from feeling anything negative. To truly be happy, get in touch with your feelings, pronto!

4. Stop thinking other people’s opinions matter.

People will always have an opinion, and that’s a beautiful thing! Our differences can unite us. But taking on what other people say as your truth can hurt your mental health and your ability to be happy. Recognize that what people say is a reflection of them, not you.

5. Stop putting off your health.

What you do to your body makes a huge impact on your overall happiness and health. If you’re failing to take care of yourself, nothing else will matter, so take steps to eat better, exercise and make your body — your habitat — a beautiful place.

Now if you really want to be happy start doing the following:

  • Recognize your unique self.
  • Let go of what no longer serves you.
  • Love yourself and get comfortable in your own skin.
  • Be open-minded.
  • Feel your feelings.
  • Focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want.
  • Release attachments.
  • Practice forgiveness.
  • Follow your heart.
  • Stop engaging in drama.
