The Power of Self-Agency and Self-Advocacy

Exploring Ketamine Therapy with Michael Petegorsky from Mindbloom

Imagine if all your needs as a child were met. Therefore, as an adult your inner child felt safe, cared for, loved and respected. Unfortunately, this isn’t usually the case for people. What if, when something bad happened and you expressed yourself to others, instead of dismissal, punishment, rejection, neglect or abuse, you were greeted with the question, “Dear one, it’s okay, what do you need right now? Do you want to be helped, heard or hugged?”

This is what Michael Petegorsky and his wife teach their children: self-agency and self-advocacy for them to be seen, understood and fully heard in the world. The truth is, most adults need this too, so let me ask you, what do you need right now? Do you want to be helped, heard or hugged?

Do you want to be helped, heard or hugged?

Keep reading and listen in if you are ready to get your needs met . . .

Most of us are wounded adults, suffering from unhealed trauma and unmet needs that started in our childhood. The notion that hurt people go on to hurt other people is widely true, unless we stop the cycle and look inward and do something about it.

I know this all too well. After a series of devastating traumatic events—mostly involving other people with extreme betrayals, including theft, abandonment, emotional and psychological abuse, rejection and manipulation—I was left picking up the pieces of my life, alone, in another country. For a while, I was confused, wondering how people could do these horrific things to other person. Why did they target me? But on my healing journey, I quickly changed this notion of “Why are they hurting me?” to “How did my unhealed wounds (unconscious patterns and behaviors) contribute to the outcome?”

“Instead of focusing on other people, I need to go inward and focus on me!”

This led me on a deep healing and spiritual journey that brought me to new modalities and therapies unlike any I had tried before. And that is when I discovered Mindbloom. I’ve heard great things about this award-winning company, and I knew I needed to give it a try.

Mindbloom is a mental health and wellbeing company helping people achieve personal and clinical breakthroughs with at-home, clinician-prescribed ketamine therapies. They are effectively the leading consumer psychedelic therapy brand on a mission to transform lives to transform the world.

Ketamine is a trusted and wildly used medicine that helps the brain create new, healthier patterns via new neural growth. I’ve been in the program for the past few weeks, and I personally have seen shifts already.

For me, new pathways have opened up and I am seeing all the traumas from my past in new reframed perspectives, which has led me to heal from past pain, accept reality, forgive myself and others, even release burdens I used to ruminate on, and my self-doubt has shifted into deeper self-love and worth.

I’ve been so impressed with my healing journey on ketamine, and the ethics and integrity of Mindbloom as a company, that I wanted to bring on Michael Petegorsky, the chief strategy officer at Mindbloom to talk breakthroughs in mental health, ketamine treatment, what to expect, and why and how it’s transforming lives and the world. On today’s podcast, you are in for a treat for your mind and soul.

Whether you are curious about ketamine therapy, just want to hear more of my personal story of overcoming some of the most challenging times in my life, or simply learn more about Michael and his core teaching of self-advocacy and self-agency and how ketamine helps you connect to your truest higher self, the healing journey is never linear and the more we learn, the more we grow. I admit, this is one of my favorite conversations I’ve ever had on my podcast. In part because we talk mental health, spirituality and wellness, my three favorite buckets I care so much about.

When I asked Michael how his first ketamine experience was, he shared, “It was like I had noise canceling headphones on for my brain. For the first time I could see I didn’t have to attach to my thoughts.” He was calm, he felt peace, he basked in self-love. Sounds amazing, right? My experience was similar . . .
